Itinerary

Arrive in Johannesburg and transfer to your accommodation. Meet your expedition leader and fellow travellers during a welcome briefing, where you will be introduced to the journey ahead. This session sets expectations, outlines travel logistics and offers insight into the regions you will explore. The remainder of the day is at leisure to rest after your journey or explore nearby areas. This is the beginning of your Southern Africa expedition.

Depart Johannesburg and travel toward South Africa’s renowned wildlife regions. The scenery gradually transforms into open bushveld and savannah landscapes, rich in biodiversity. This overland journey introduces you to the scale and diversity of Southern Africa while building anticipation for your first wildlife encounters. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the land, ecosystems and local communities.

Explore the Greater Kruger region on morning and afternoon game drives. This area is one of Africa’s premier safari destinations, offering exceptional wildlife viewing. Track the Big Five alongside giraffes, zebras and a wide range of birdlife. Your guides will interpret animal behaviour and the surrounding ecosystem, turning each sighting into a deeper learning experience.

Spend the day exploring conservation initiatives that support both wildlife and local communities. Gain insight into the challenges and successes of protecting these ecosystems. Later, head out on a guided bush walk with experienced trackers. This slower, more detailed experience allows you to understand the landscape through tracks, plants and smaller wildlife often missed on drives.

Cross into Botswana as the landscapes open into vast, untamed wilderness. The sense of remoteness increases as you travel deeper into one of Africa’s most pristine regions. This transition marks the beginning of a more immersive and raw safari experience, where nature dominates and human presence becomes minimal.

Arrive in the Okavango Delta and explore this extraordinary ecosystem by traditional mokoro canoe. Glide through narrow channels and lagoons surrounded by reeds and birdlife. The silence of this journey allows for close encounters with wildlife and offers a completely different perspective compared to vehicle-based safaris.

Continue your exploration of the Okavango Delta with guided walks and boat excursions. Travel across islands and waterways with local guides who share their deep knowledge of the land. This immersive experience reveals the delicate balance of life in the Delta and highlights the diversity of species that thrive here.

Visit a local village and gain insight into traditional ways of life, including crafts, customs and daily routines. This cultural exchange adds depth to your journey. Later, experience a night in a bush camp surrounded by nature. Gather around the campfire, share stories and enjoy a communal meal under a vast African sky.

Spend another day in the Delta, observing how the landscape changes with light and movement. Wildlife emerges as temperatures shift, and the golden hues of sunset create a peaceful and unforgettable atmosphere. This is a moment to pause and fully appreciate the natural beauty surrounding you.

Travel to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, one of the largest salt flat systems in the world. This vast, open landscape offers a dramatic contrast to the waterways of the Delta. Depending on the season, you may encounter desert-adapted wildlife such as meerkats or migrating animals. The scale and silence of this region are truly striking.

Arrive at Chobe National Park, famous for its large elephant population. In the evening, enjoy a river safari along the Chobe River. This water-based experience offers excellent wildlife viewing, with elephants, hippos and birdlife gathering along the riverbanks at sunset.

Cross into Zimbabwe and travel through scenic landscapes toward your next destination. Depending on the route, you will stay near Hwange or Matobo National Park. These regions are known for their unique geological features and strong wildlife presence, offering a different perspective on Southern Africa’s diversity.

Explore Hwange National Park on game drives through varied terrain including savannah and woodland. Known for its large herds of elephants and predator sightings, this park provides excellent wildlife encounters in a less crowded setting. Your guides will help track animals and interpret the environment.

Discover the dramatic granite landscapes of Matobo National Park. Enjoy guided walks through this unique terrain, learning about both the wildlife and cultural heritage of the region. The area is known for its rock formations, historical significance and scenic beauty.

Arrive in Victoria Falls and experience one of the world’s most powerful natural wonders. Walk through designated viewpoints to witness the immense cascade plunging into the gorge below. The sound, mist and scale create a truly unforgettable experience.

Spend the day exploring Victoria Falls further or take part in optional experiences such as helicopter flights, Zambezi River cruises or guided nature walks. This flexible day allows you to experience the destination in a way that suits your interests.

Enjoy a final wildlife activity in the surrounding region, offering one last opportunity to connect with the African wilderness. In the evening, gather with your group for a farewell dinner, reflecting on the journey and the shared experiences that have defined your expedition.

After breakfast, transfer for your onward journey. Reflect on an extraordinary African experience filled with iconic landscapes, cultural insights and unforgettable wildlife encounters across three remarkable countries.
